What will my degree say?

It will say Master of Science. You will also receive a certificate stating Master of Science in Criminal Justice and your specialty track.

Is the program accredited?

NSU is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

What are the benefits of an online environment?

Traditional courses require you to attend classes in person two or three days per week. With the online environment, you can check your e-mail and bulletin board at any time convenient to you in your own home.

Do you limit the number of students who can enroll in the program?

We do not limit the number of students who can enroll. We do however limit the class sizes.

How long will it take to complete my Master of Science in Criminal Justice?

There are twelve (12) courses. There are five (5) core courses plus your chosen specialization five (5) courses, and two (2) elective courses. The total number of credits required is 36. A typical student's time commitment is about one and a half years. (Averaging two (2) courses per semester).

How many classes do I need to take to be considered a full-time student?

A student who is registered for a minimum of 2 courses is considered to be a full-time student.

How many credits can I transfer towards the Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree?

Students may transfer a maximum of 6 credits if they meet the following minimum criteria:
  • Course taken was at the graduate level with a letter grade of ‘B’ or better
  • Transfer course(s) documented on an official transcript supplied by the student
  • Transfer course(s) completed within the last five (5) years
  • Transfer of course(s) approved by the CJI Director

Can I take two specialty tracks?

Yes. It is possible for students to take 2 specialty tracks by only taking 3 additional courses for a total of (45 credits).

What is the cost per credit hour?

$520/credit hour, this cost is subject to change.

Is Financial aid available for students taking online courses?

Yes, Financial Aid is available for online courses. Individuals should evaluate their eligibility for financial aid by calling the Office of Student Financial Aid at (954)262-3380 or (800)522-3243.

Do I need an undergraduate degree?

Yes. In order to be admitted into the program you need an undergraduate degree. However, a coordinated program with the NSU Farqhuar Center can lead to the completion of your undergraduate degree with a seamless transition into the Master of Science in Criminal Justice Program. When should I complete an Application for Degree?

An application for degree should be submitted with payment no later than the last term in which your program will be completed.
